Word Vault: Vocabulary Builder アプリのレビュー

Really Good App

I really enjoy this app. I like that it gives you words and an associative picture with it so that you’ll remember what the word is. I also like the fact that it stores those words and pictures so they’re easily accessible if you need to refer to them or need to find a word that fits into a particular part of a sentence. It’s a really really good app. I wish that I gave announcements for new words so that you can build upon that vocabulary. You’ve already started. But overall, it is fantastic to learn vocabulary words, and they have them stick in your mind.

A digital reliquary for all your beautiful words

It will collect words, sure. But more importantly, it will help you weave the words you collect into your day-to-day life. This app does good in the world, full stop.

iPad version is needed! Along with bunch of enhancement.

I’ve been using this lovely app for 5 years or so and I have to admit it’s been quite handy whenever I wanted to load numerous new words into my head. But recently, I started to grow an unsatisfactoriness ‘cause against the odd, I encountered some flaws been unable to back to the main page and sort of these weirdness. Hope to get the version I used to love…

Great App!! 🥰🥰

My favorite for years

App problems

It was a great app and working fine but since the last Apple operating system update the app does not work. I hope someone fixes this.

Great app for saving vocab

I always look up unusual words when I’m reading and then promptly forget them, so I was looking for an app that does exactly this! Now I look up a word and then save it and then can come back to my list later. ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT it does not connect to search online when the word isn’t recognized. Otherwise great little app for word connoisseurs. Any plans to fix the bug? Had to bring my star rating down because this still hasn’t been fixed or responded to.

Want to become well-spoken?

This app is so incredibly user friendly, yet it includes the features you wouldn’t even have realized were essential. I’d been taking screen shots of all of the words I look up while I am reading or watching shows that I find beautiful or that I hadn’t heard before. Now, I just type it into the app, and voila, it’s recorded in my “vault”. Then, I review the words with its awesome review system, and words I get wrong go into the “weak” folder so that I know to work on those ones more until I get them. Long story short, I am actually improving my vocabulary in an effortless and sort of addicting way. I can’t rave enough about this app. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.

Almost perfect... and nothing better

I want to track words that I don’t know as I read on my iOS devices. You’d think there would be many apps out there that would do this, but Word Vault is the only one I’ve found that delivers most of what I’m looking for. What’s good: - You can highlight a word, then lookup and save in Word Vault from the share menu. Super easy! - Word Vault prompts you (optional setting) with the words you’ve saved on the lock screen and reminds you to study them. - The study feature uses spaced repetition, the best way to memorize something. What could be better: - Not formatted for iPad. I really don’t like the iPhone screen format on an iPad. For one thing it’s portrait only. -No syncing between devices. You can backup to Dropbox but that’s not what I want. I do most of my reading on the iPad and would do most word reviews on my iPhone, if I could. If these two features were added, it would have everything I want. I’m still giving it five stars because no other app out there comes close.

Really good app

Hello, if you come back to this app I will be glad I like to use this app it’s really good but I would be to see several options with definitions on english just add from another sources because your standard definitions so much hard to me I try to learn new words every day I think u have guessed that English isn’t my the first language, and yea I’ve seen features like add own commentary on the bottom for words and I’ve bought the extra pack for translate from English to my native language but it’s not helpful for me unfortunately I need English descriptions for understanding and learning. And one asks yet if you can change your repeat system it would be great because now it isn’t working well when I repeat my new words it is impossible all words show random, thank you

Connection to online definition lookup fails all the time

Don’t buy. This app is no longer maintained. More than half of the words don’t have definition found, and the automatic online look up fails every time.

Very disappointed

I am very disappointed in this app. I was looking for a dictionary that can save words from iOS “lookup” feature when you highlight a word in Safari or the News app and Word Vault claimed it does that but IT DOES NOT! Also the definitions are so short and there are no pronunciation for some words e.g. slumbering... It was a waste of money.

Favorite Vocab app

I’ve used this for years and love it. Most vocabulary apps are about flashcards and flipping a word with an answer. The ability to look at definitions and type in the spelling has worked well for me. Hope more features are added—like controlling when you want to work on words that you haven’t come across yet. In my word vault I have over 10,000 words I’ve selected from years of reading that I like to keep fresh. However, the app doesn’t allow me to control when it goes back to old words. I’ve had this app for a couple of years and have only gotten to around word 7,000, mostly the result of inactivity for a couple days or so which means I have to go back over words I’ve already learned. If you could provide more control over this or create a feature when the app doesn’t go back over old words at midnight every night that would be great.

Good but could be better

Great app to learn vocabulary, but I find the definitions not to be up to par with other dictionaries, and a bit lacking of good examples. For example, for the word ‘ilk’ you get “a kind of person”, which is quite a simplistic definition. For comparison, the Oxford English Dictionary defines it as “a type of person or thing similar to one already referred to”, Collins defines it as “a type; class; sort (esp in the phrase of that, his, her, etc, ilk)”, and Macmillan as “of its/that/their particular type or kind”. You can add your own notes in the app, but I find that I have to do so with most words I save, which is a big hassle. It would be great if you could choose which dictionary to get definitions from.

One annoyance

While using the review feature - of my list of 191 words it always asks me for the same 9 terms. I can’t figure out if I can change them. So - I’m a master of 9/191 words.

Misleading list description

I was looking for an app to build vocabulary lists with definitions for my son. This app produces a nice list, but my son is not allowed to use his phone in the classroom and so he can’t use the nice list at school because he can’t print it with definitions. Waste of money for us.

App just quits when I try to search a word

I am able to look up my existing list of words added before but the app quits when I search a new word. Can this be fixed as I was not expecting such flaws in the paid apps like this one.

Terrific

This is a great way to really learn new words. Highly recommend.

Wonderful

This app is off to a good start. Keep going.

Very good

Very good, organized app that I use as a budding writer. Great way to keep a word bank!

Does what you want it to do.

I like words, learning new ones and keeping track of where I found them. This app allows you to back up to Dropbox or email everything to yourself. Perfect.

Multiple Vaults for language learning

It would be very nice to be able to manage multiple vaults for learning words from other languages. Other than that, I think it may be perfect.

Great App for Serious Readers

No better way to build your vocabulary. Save your words. Save the sources where you found the words. Even save a copy of the sentence in the notes. Amazing! Unfortunately, I cannot get the icon to display on my screen. Not sure if this is a Chaotic Good problem or an IOS glitch.

Best by far! ...and I've tried them all.

I've tried all the vocabulary learners and dictionary apps. This one combines them all so well. Highly recommended.

Great App: Future Features

My only complaint (if you can really call it that) is that the export feature only includes notes and not the actual word definition-which, to me, is why I want to back up my words in the first place. Other than that, it still offers the ability to save your word to a list, the design is beautiful, the notes and resources section are killer (maybe categories in the future), and the overall experience is super rewarding.

Great app

I don't normally write reviews but this is a great app for studying vocab. I'm learning words for the GREs and this has been invaluable.

I love this app!

Just what I needed to expand and practice my vocab conveniently on the go! 😊

Excellent

For my needs this was more than i expected, very quick and responsive, great app. for my young grandchildren(6,8 an 11).

Great app

This is a great app and very useful for expanding your vocabulary.

Needs help with notes

I enjoy using this app; however, I cannot access my notes or see them in any way unless I hit "edit note." I would like to see my notes right below the definition instead of always having to click "edit note" to see if I even have a note with a particular word. Please fix!

A perfect reading companion

What is very unique about this application is that when you learn a new word, not only do you have to understand the meaning, but you have to spell it correctly as well. This reinforces the memorization process. Overall in extremely satisfied with this application.

Awesome Appa

I love this app. Plain and simple. I have always been quick to look up definitions almost on a daily basis as I hear and use words, and Word Vault is the spoon that feeds the vocabulary hungry beast within. Pros: -Pre-loads words to make looking something up a breeze -Home page of each word has definitions, synonyms, antonyms, and an audio example. -Super easy to save my favorite words, and once saved I can ask the app to quiz me on all or specific chunks of words each day/week/month -Allows me to copy/paste any word/definition I find elsewhere. I find this to be particularly helpful because I use the Merriam-Webster Word of the Day Widget and need a place to store words and definitions for future reference. This feature also has a dedicated entry spot for the source of any word I save (e.g. Merriam-Webster, talking with a colleague, movie, etc.) I definitely rate Word Vault 5 stars with no hesitation. I think that anyone who is interested in growing their personal vocabulary base will love this app.

Can I get a refund ?

The dictionary is too bad.

Good app, would like to be able to edit definitions

Good app for learning and reviewing new vocabulary. I have 85 words in my vault now and there are four or five words for which the definition is totally inadequate or missing. I'd like to be able to add my own definitions to these words.

Killer app for word nerds

Really great for keeping track of interesting words you come across while reading.

Great app!!

This is THE app to use for those trying to improve their vocabulary. Also, the developer is AWESOME. There was a bug in the app and he worked around the clock to resolve the issue.

Great vocab builder

I use it every day

Love this app!

Use this as a word builder and love it. How about adding a share extension so that i can add new words directly from other apps or safari?

love

great app for practicing words from your own lists. don't think there's a way to separate words into sublists which would be nice, but the review is great. also I like the fact that if you have a word copied to the clipboard, it will automatically put up when you open the app. only other issue of scene is that images matched with words aren't always correct/relevant. (pulled from the web I think).

Excellent app but still needs a little more

1. The user interface is intuitive and uncluttered. 2. The notifications makes it more effective for users to avoid procrastinating. 3. The quizzes help with retention. What I think is missing and is vital for real understanding of how to correctly USE the words, is a feature that quarries the word being used in multiple example sentences.

Best app for advanced vocab building

I'm looking to take the GRE's again to apply to get my 2nd masters, and I only wish this app was available 17 years ago when i first took them. Rather than drill me on random 'big words,' many of which I already know, this app enables me to generate a list of only the words *I* want to learn, and then quizzes me on them in an ingenious & most difficult way that really reinforces long-term memory, which is by skipping the multiple choice, displaying a random definition, and then forcing me to recall what word I've saved best fits it. Correct spelling counts, and the app won't drop a word off your list until you correctly recall it in random order 3 times in a row. Difficult to describe, but it's hard & effective. My only beef which gives it 4 stars is the difficulty syncing Word Vault among different iOS devices w/o Dropbox account. It claims this is possible via iCloud back up, but there's no instructions on HOW!!!

Fantastic app

This is the best dictionary app I've used. It's fast, has great features, good pronunciation, nice design, allows you to track the sources of your words, has illustrations, daily quiz. I could keep going it's so full of well designed features.

Essential App for Writers

I'm not a native speaker, but this app has taught me to remember many words I read from books. The daily reminder to practice these words introduces a motivating routine for me.

Fantastic

Awesome app. Great for keeping words you like salient. Simple, easy to use. Still would like to see iCloud sync.

This app keeps getting better and better

I use word vault almost everyday and the new features in the updates make it even better. I just have one thing I wish never changed, an that's when the app converted it's UI interface to the iOS 7 look. IMO I simply dislike the flat and basic look of iOS 7 and the fact that all apps changed to this as well. I just wish Word Vault still looked as it did back in iOS 6 where depth, shadows, and realism made it look spectacular.

Simple Idea, Terrific Execution

I don't normally leave reviews, but I love this app. This is the kind of idea which fulfills a basic need but does it in a simple and very effective way. It's not overly complicated unnecessarily and it allows you to very simply save words you'd like to learn, recall, and use more often. Just what I was looking for. Thank you to the devs for a job well done.

Great app to build vocabulary!

Great app to build vocabulary of the words you come across regularly...

Love this app!

Great app! I use it while reading to capture, learn, and retain words. I like that you can select "favorite" words and the whole quiz process. The only improvement I would suggest is to expand on the definitions to include more examples of the words in sentences and include an option to reveal synonyms and antonyms.

Almost Best iPhone Dictionary App

NEEDS BETTER DICTIONARY!! This app is elegantly designed, and for the most part it works very well, but the dictionary is totally lacking! iOS's built in dictionary is much more comprehensive than this app that costs $5. This is very frustrating and shouldn't be the case. Their is little to no etymologies given. Many words don't even show up. The word review feature is killer if it was only backed up by a f**kin' half way decent dictionary. The app has one job! Couldn't they just use the definitions your iPhone already provides you with?! Please please please improve the dictionary in your DICTIONARY app. If they could deliver what is promised then the app would easily be worth the money. I want this app to be good, I like building up my word vault! Don't let us down, you're almost there!

Definitions need work

5-star app with 3-star definitions. Look up a word in this app--say, "perfunctory"--then in the Merriam Webster's or American Heritage and see how much richer it is in the latter. Of course that's not the point-- the object here is to learn vocabulary, nuances of which can be discerned later. I just know it could facilitate word retention if I could delve into more specificity, or etymology in the process.
