Word Vault: Vocabulary Builder App Reviews

Loving it!

Word Vault helps me a great deal to collect, remember, learn and use new words. Its as straight forward as it gets. I first bothered with the 4.99 for basicly a dictionary. But the actual value it already added to my english skills easily outguns that.

The best app for spaced repetition

The best app for spaced repetition of recently learned words.

This app keeps getting better and better

I use word vault almost everyday and the new features in the updates make it even better. I just have one thing I wish never changed, an thats when the app converted its UI interface to the iOS 7 look. IMO I simply dislike the flat and basic look of iOS 7 and the fact that all apps changed to this as well. I just wish Word Vault still looked as it did back in iOS 6 where depth, shadows, and realism made it look spectacular.

Fantastic

Awesome app. Great for keeping words you like salient. Simple, easy to use. Still would like to see iCloud sync.

Essential App for Writers

Im not a native speaker, but this app has taught me to remember many words I read from books. The daily reminder to practice these words introduces a motivating routine for me.

Nearly perfect

One suggestion of improvement - add phonetic alphabets

Fantastic app

This is the best dictionary app Ive used. Its fast, has great features, good pronunciation, nice design, allows you to track the sources of your words, has illustrations, daily quiz. I could keep going its so full of well designed features.

Best app for advanced vocab building

Im looking to take the GREs again to apply to get my 2nd masters, and I only wish this app was available 17 years ago when i first took them. Rather than drill me on random big words, many of which I already know, this app enables me to generate a list of only the words *I* want to learn, and then quizzes me on them in an ingenious & most difficult way that really reinforces long-term memory, which is by skipping the multiple choice, displaying a random definition, and then forcing me to recall what word Ive saved best fits it. Correct spelling counts, and the app wont drop a word off your list until you correctly recall it in random order 3 times in a row. Difficult to describe, but its hard & effective. My only beef which gives it 4 stars is the difficulty syncing Word Vault among different iOS devices w/o Dropbox account. It claims this is possible via iCloud back up, but theres no instructions on HOW!!!

Awesome App

I love this app. Plain and simple. I have always been quick to look up definitions almost on a daily basis as I hear and use words, and Word Vault is the spoon that feeds the vocabulary hungry beast within. Pros: -Pre-loads words to make looking something up a breeze -Home page of each word has definitions, synonyms, antonyms, and an audio example. -Super easy to save my favorite words, and once saved I can ask the app to quiz me on all or specific chunks of words each day/week/month -Allows me to copy/paste any word/definition I find elsewhere. I find this to be particularly helpful because I use the Merriam-Webster Word of the Day Widget and need a place to store words and definitions for future reference. This feature also has a dedicated entry spot for the source of any word I save (e.g. Merriam-Webster, talking with a colleague, movie, etc.) I definitely rate Word Vault 5 stars with no hesitation. I think that anyone who is interested in growing their personal vocabulary base will love this app.

Excellent app but still needs a little more

1. The user interface is intuitive and uncluttered. 2. The notifications makes it more effective for users to avoid procrastinating. 3. The quizzes help with retention. What I think is missing and is vital for real understanding of how to correctly USE the words, is a feature that quarries the word being used in multiple example sentences.

love

great app for practicing words from your own lists. dont think theres a way to separate words into sublists which would be nice, but the review is great. also I like the fact that if you have a word copied to the clipboard, it will automatically put up when you open the app. only other issue of scene is that images matched with words arent always correct/relevant. (pulled from the web I think).

The best app for saving vocabulary words

Ive been looking for an app similar to the vocabulary builder on the kindle. This is the best one Ive found. One feature recommendation- allow the user to add words using the share functionality. If Im reading a book in iBooks or the kindle app, it would be so much more convenient to add new words through the share menu, rather than coping the word and switching apps, adding it, and then switching back to the book. Keep up the awesome work!

Love this app!

Use this as a word builder and love it. How about adding a share extension so that i can add new words directly from other apps or safari?

A perfect reading companion

I had been looking for a way to save words I ran across that I didnt know (using notes was tedious). This is a great app and very useful.

Great app!!

This is THE app to use for those trying to improve their vocabulary. Also, the developer is AWESOME. There was a bug in the app and he worked around the clock to resolve the issue.

Killer app for word nerds

Really great for keeping track of interesting words you come across while reading.

Great tool for expanding my vocabulary

I keep coming back to Word Vault as the best tool for helping me grow my vocabulary. I can add words of interest to me which I come across reading books or web articles, and I quiz myself occasionally to refresh my learning. Havent found any app which works as well for me.

Good app, would like to be able to edit definitions

Good app for learning and reviewing new vocabulary. I have 85 words in my vault now and there are four or five words for which the definition is totally inadequate or missing. Id like to be able to add my own definitions to these words.

Can I get a refund ?

The dictionary is too bad.

Good design; not without flaws

The word review idea is great, but without an index it isnt practical as a dictionary. The word definitions have more depth than Word Lookup Pro but what do you do if you dont know how to spell the word? I mean we lookup words because we need clarification for its meaning. That means we arent familiar with that word, wouldnt that also mean we may not know how to spell it? I use Word Lookup Pro as a dictionary in large part because as you are typing in the word, it gradually narrows the list of words. If Word Vault had a similar system, it would be worth the money, but until or unless it does, it just feels impractical.
